The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Might Solve This

Whenever a significant honors show approaches, there’s always a demand for introducing fresh award types to recognize underappreciated efforts and fill the passions of fans who have specialized interests.

Another commentator previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. So would strategy board titles, this being a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist when I prioritize because like all single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification for why my demand stands as crucial and significant. The demand is this: We need a category for puzzle games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and inevitably spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that movie academies avoid this approach. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise within the realm of gaming, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards currently feature genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these classifications effectively encompass many game types, making space possible for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Think about these outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles of one title, intense tile-matching in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. Which classification works between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games released every year without proper recognition at major award shows, if they accidentally match award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked in any category in 2014
  • A different innovative game was excluded during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment recently
  • Only a few brain-teasers barely qualified for niche award types

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent compact experiences, but the art in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Well-known matching games rank among most popular titles in the world maintaining this status for over a decade.

The legendary block-stacking game competes with famous sandbox experiences for the title of best-selling game of all time; it also contends for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational for gaming as medium, while interacting with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. It would be easy to populate a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude so many good games out.

And to reiterate, these are games that otherwise have no home in important events. Puzzle game makers operate at the hard edge of video game design, developing some of most fundamental forms of the video game form. Just like film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay decades.
